Sunday Service on the 20th day of September, 2026
Our topic this morning is simple yet powerful: Don’t forget – remember.
Deuteronomy 8:1-2 says, “Every commandment which I command you today you must be careful to observe, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers. And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.”
Verses 11-14 continue: “Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, lest—when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.”
Remembrance is a blessing from God. It keeps us humble, compassionate, helpful and faithful in our mission. There are things in life we must forget. Philippians 3:13 says, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.” Some pains and abuses must not imprison us. We must release them.
Yet there are things we must never forget. Psalm 103:2 declares, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” Do not forget the blessings of the Lord.
Spiritual forgetfulness is the most dangerous kind. When we forget, our hearts become lifted up. We grow arrogant. We become overly critical and indifferent. We begin to look at others as if we achieved everything by our own strength. We forget the nights we cried. We forget when we had only one good pair of shoes. We forget the people who believed in us when we had nothing.
God repeatedly told Israel to remember Egypt—not to keep them in the past, but so that when abundance came they would not forget the God who delivered them. The church is like a hospital. We are all in the process of healing and we need to support one another. Remember where God brought you from so that your heart does not become proud.
No matter where you stand today, do not forget that He will take you further. Be careful not to forget.
Application
Choose deliberately to remember God’s past faithfulness, the low places from which He lifted you, and the people who stood with you when you had little. Let this remembrance keep you humble and compassionate so that in this season of double harvest you can encourage others and remain faithful.
