Heb. 13:15 “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise-the fruit of lips that confess his name”. Through Jesus, we make a sacrifice of praise. This scripture comes from the concluding remarks of the book.
The sacrifice Jesus offered is described extensively in chapters 8 to 10. He came to fulfil the sacrificial system anticipated in the Old Covenant. God was not keen on works because He knew at best our righteousness will be like filthy rags (Isa.64:6). He undertook to release us from the demand of the law by providing a befitting sacrifice of his son Jesus Christ. It had to be because without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin (Heb.9:22).
God provided his son for a lamb (John 1:29), that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. He became a sacrifice for your sake and mine! Now we are required to accept that sacrifice and be saved: will you not accept a gift of eternal life freely given to you in Christ Jesus? Therein lay the new song of praise! There lay our provision to offer God a sacrifice; not of animals any more but of praise in Christ.
Sacrifice is given away. Give away praise, not because God worked out a miracle in your life; but because you are giving it away! Not because of the many blessings in your life, but giving away! Let the sacrifice go into flames! Halleluyah.
