Min. Brian Musawa Sunday Service on the 29th day of March 2026
As believers, we often assume we are following God’s direction, yet we sometimes pursue our own methods while believing they align with His will. God has a specific way of doing things, clearly outlined in His Word, and He expects us to follow His instructions rather than imitate others or rely on what worked for someone else.
In 2 Samuel 6:1-11 (NKJV): “Again, David gathered all the choice men of Israel, thirty thousand. And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the Lord of hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart. And David and all the house of Israel played music before the Lord on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals. And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God. And David became angry because of the Lord’s outbreak against Uzzah; and he called the name of the place Perez Uzzah to this day. David was afraid of the Lord that day; and he said, ‘How can the ark of the Lord come to me?’ So David would not move the ark of the Lord with him into the City of David; but David took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months. And the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.”
David sought to bring the Ark of God—the symbol of His presence—back with great celebration and good intentions. Yet they used a new cart, following the Philistines’ method instead of God’s prescribed way. When the oxen stumbled, Uzzah reached out to steady the Ark and was struck down. God’s presence and blessing did not rest where His instructions were disregarded.
God is omnipresent, but He manifests powerfully only where He is obeyed. We cannot expect His full blessing while walking in our own ways or copying methods not aligned with His Word. Each of us has a unique calling, gifting, and assignment. Imitating another person’s path may lead us away from the specific blessing God has prepared for us. Your blessing is tied to your obedience to what God has spoken to you personally.
Discover what God has called you to do. Do not mimic others or justify shortcuts. Follow His way precisely—through His Word—and you will experience His manifested presence, blessing, and power.
Application Examine your life and ministry to ensure you are following God’s prescribed way rather than convenient methods, cultural practices, or what has worked for others. Seek to discover and walk in your unique calling and gifting, refusing to imitate paths that are not yours. Prioritise strict obedience to God’s Word in every decision, knowing that His presence and blessing rest fully only where He is honoured through alignment with His instructions. In this year of double harvest, commit to doing things exactly God’s way so that His power flows unhindered and His blessings multiply in your life.
