Rev. Gerrald Kimathi
Sunday Service on the 22nd day of March 2026
God has declared this the year of double harvest, and He invites us to walk in obedience that unlocks multiplied blessing. One of His clear and unchanging instructions is found in Exodus 20:15 (NKJV): “You shall not steal.”
This command forms part of the Ten Commandments and carries direct spiritual weight. Disobedience, including any form of stealing, activates curses that touch every sphere of life, as outlined in Deuteronomy 28:15-18 (NKJV): “But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you: Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the country. Cursed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Cursed shall be the fruit of your body and the produce of your land, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.”
Stealing is not limited to taking physical items; it includes robbing God through withheld tithes and offerings. Malachi 3:8-10 (NKJV) addresses this plainly: “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed Me, even this whole nation. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.”
We do not give tithe; we pay tithe. Tithing is not an optional gift but a return of what already belongs to God. Offerings are given separately and cheerfully beyond the tithe. When we obey by bringing the full tithe, God responds by opening the windows of heaven and pouring out blessings too abundant to contain. He also promises protection in Malachi 3:11 (NKJV): “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” says the Lord of hosts.”
The apostle Paul provides practical guidance for believers in Ephesians 4:28 (NKJV): “Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.”
Instead of stealing, we are called to honest, diligent labour that produces good and creates surplus to bless those in need. Life is not meant to centre on self alone but on advancing God’s kingdom and supporting others. Money follows purpose; when we align our work and giving with God’s will, prosperity flows without the hindrance of curses.
In this season of double harvest, faithful obedience—ceasing every form of stealing, committing to honest labour, and honouring God with consistent tithes and offerings—removes barriers and positions us to experience multiplied increase and divine protection.
Application Examine your life for any form of stealing, including withholding tithes or offerings that rightfully belong to God, and replace it with honest, diligent labour that produces good and enables generosity toward others. Commit to bringing the full tithe into the storehouse while giving offerings cheerfully, trusting God’s promise to open the windows of heaven and rebuke the devourer. Align your finances, work, and daily decisions with His purposes so that curses give way to abundant blessing and fruitfulness. In this year of double harvest, let obedience become your pathway to sustained prosperity and kingdom impact.
