Rev. Gerrald Kimathi
This is the year of double harvest, and the message the Lord has laid on my heart is clear: double seeds for double harvest.
The Scripture declares in Zechariah 9:12 (KJV): “Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;”
Double harvest does not come without double seeds. Sacrifice is the seed that releases power and advances God’s agenda. Wherever your treasure is, there your heart will also be. Sacrifices relocate the centre of gravity of your life toward heaven.
In Daniel 8:11-13 (KJV), we see the enemy’s strategy: “Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.”
The horn exalts itself by opposing and removing the daily sacrifice. The devil fights against your sacrifices—your material offerings, your time, your skills, your strength, your relationships—because they carry power. He seeks to cast truth to the ground and prosper in hindering God’s people.
Look at the pattern in Scripture. When Jesus explained His path of suffering, Peter took Him aside and rebuked Him, saying it should not happen. Jesus turned and said, “Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men” (Matthew 16:21-23, KJV, adapted from spoken phrasing).
Peter was a close disciple, yet he opposed the sacrifice of the cross. Similarly, Judas criticised Mary’s costly offering of alabaster oil as waste, valuing money over devotion. Sacrifice often finds few sympathisers, even among those close to us. The enemy uses discouragement, important voices, and distractions to keep us from sowing.
I remember my own moment of decision. In my teaching career, I faced pressure to hold on, even from respected figures. Yet the call to follow fully required surrender. I let go of that security to pursue God’s path. There is no convenient time for true sacrifice—Jesus fasted forty days in the wilderness, showing that power comes through yielding.
Without sacrifice, impact remains limited. Our recent evangelism efforts illustrate this: few were reached, and few were won, despite the goal of every member reaching one soul. The kingdom suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. We must double our seeds in witnessing, in giving, in devotion.
The reward is not merely things or blessings—it is the release of God’s power to bring a double harvest. Return to the stronghold as prisoners of hope. Tell every opposing voice, every reservation, every care: “Get behind me.” Surrender fully, make your life a sweet-smelling sacrifice, and watch God render double.
Decide today: no turning back. Sow double seeds, and enter the double harvest God has declared.
Summary of the Core Theme and Application
Application: Return to God as prisoners of hope (Zechariah 9:12). Double your sacrifices now—in evangelism, obedience, and surrender—without waiting for convenience or heeding discouragement. Let go of reservations, witness boldly, and trust God to bring restoration and multiplied harvest in your life, family, church, and nation.
